What is Hubbing?
'Hubbing' is a term that is often referred to in conjunction with the GSMA's drive towards 'Open Connectivity'. The initiative aims to give operators a single connection point to the world of roaming by using hubs that facilitate multi-lateral roaming relationships. This highlights a move away from the traditional bi-lateral agreement process and enables mobile operators to establish roaming contracts more rapidly and efficiently.

What benefits are there to 'hubbing'?

By streamlining the process of signing roaming agreements from one-to-one and transferring it to one-to-many, 'hubbing' allows significant cost savings and improved revenue streams in a fraction of the traditional time spent. The initiative will also allow operators to extend their roaming services, such as 3G, because it becomes simpler and faster to set up agreements.

For your subscriber this means an improved range of multimedia services whilst roaming in many more countries around the world. By being able to form relationships with multiple parties and maintain them through a single contact point i.e. the 'hub', operators can divert more attention to other areas of their business.
